Since I heard his story last week, I think of it often. If you read my last monthly update, you got a glimpse into the life of Michael, a college sophomore who had recently re-committed his life to Christ. Sadly, Michael died in a car accident this summer as he was preparing to transfer to Liberty University for a degree that would allow him to serve in ministry.
Just a week before he died, Michael had lunch with his former youth pastor at his home church. The youth pastor was quoted in this article as saying "It was the best conversation I’ve ever had with him. I was really blown away by the strides he’s made in his life and his maturity... He was really set on turning over the new page and going after God with all of his might. I obviously didn’t know that it was going to be our last conversation.” Michael met two of our Cru students on the shores of Myrtle Beach this summer while he was in the area doing an internship. Obviously we don't know all the details, but from Michael's dad we learned that God used this one conversation about God to spark a turning point in his life. Can you remember a time when you had one conversation with someone, maybe unexpected, that God used in your life to point you in a new direction? To teach you something you needed to learn at exactly the right moment? Have you ever initiated a conversation like that? What would it take for you, in step with the Holy Spirit, to be more bold in your normal, every day life and strike up a spiritual conversation with someone?
