November was quite the busy month, with our Operations team assisting with multiple conferences around the region. Two were very small retreat-type events near Minneapolis, one for senior staff and one for interns. Our third event was an annual regional conference for ethnic students from across the Midwest, called "Legacy." Our fourth event was the largest and most complex- a national conference for Native American college students and young adults, called "Would Jesus Eat Frybread?"
Each of these events was very different, but within each there's a need for organizational structure, attention to detail and strategic planning. And where you have a need for those things, you have the Operations team! More to come in a future post about the "Would Jesus Eat Frybread?" conference (I know that name piques your interest!) Along with those 4 events, we also had team members travel to local campuses for their "Life Options" weekends. Each year we spend a few days of focused time with our Juniors and Seniors to encourage them in pursuing what God has called them to after graduation. I had the opportunity to travel to LaCrosse, WI to speak about serving on staff, specifically with Operations, at their Junior/Senior event. I had a great time meeting some key student leaders from UW-LaCrosse and hearing more about their passions- everything from teaching, to occupational therapy, to international business. Several are also considering spending 1-2 years in ministry. Cru's mission has always been to turn lost college students into Christ-centered laborers. But as we continue to win, build, and send college students, we see such potential in each of our students to reach those around them for Christ- wherever they go after college. This year, our mission has changed slightly- "to turn lost college students into lifelong Christ-centered laborers. The heart of seeing every student sent out from their college and into the world to impact others has always been there. But by including that one word, lifelong, in our mission statement, we recognize and re-emphasize the desire that we've had all along: to advance the Kingdom of God by sending out college grads that are trained and equipped to be a light to the world.
