Before students arrived, the staff team met for a week of orientation and preparing for the summer ahead in North Myrtle Beach. One day over lunch we were joined by Pam and her husband, Jim (photo below). They live in Lexington, KY but drove down to NMB to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary. They also contacted the leadership team to ask if they could speak to our staff, and I'm SO glad they did!
Pam became a Christian at Penn State in the fall of 1985, and participated in the North Myrtle Beach summer project in the summer of 1986. She shared with our group some of the things she learned that summer, and how the Lord really grew her heart for the lost. So often we lead mission trips and run events and hear students describe the change God has made in their lives during these activities. But we don't often get to see the fruit that comes from it. Jim and Pam both shared about the many people they've impacted at their church and in their community, as well as their kids who are walking with the Lord and trained to share their faith. It was so motivating to hear about a life that was changed by God 30 years ago, in part because of the steps of faith Pam took while in North Myrtle Beach, and to get a glimpse of the impact that life has had over the years. I can imagine the impact that our 67 students will have in the future, but getting to hear the "rest of the story" was so encouraging! As we say, changed lives change lives.
